Believe in Something, Even if it Means Sacrificing Everything
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick knelt on one knee during the American National Anthem to protest against racial injustice in 2016. His peaceful protest sparked an uproar of controversy and was even acknowledged negatively by America's president Donald Trump.
Colin Kaepernick went from being the star quarterback for the 49ers to unemployed. Then came 2018, now he is the new face of Nike's "Just Do It" ad campaign.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour,” Kaepernick told the NFL Media after Friday’s game. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
Nike making Kaepernick the face of their brand angered many Americans. Nike is a very famous brand with a lot of influence for the world, for them to take in such a controversial person as the new face for their campaign seems like a huge money grab.
There was an overwhelming amount of criticism towards Nike, but their sales seemed to increase immensely. However there are numerous amounts of photos and videos circling the internet that has been attached to the hashtag #JustBurnIt.
I get why many are enraged by the fact the Kaepernick disrespected the National anthem and veterans that fought for America's freedom, but he had no bad intentions. He wanted to create a change for the better of our world. In my opinion people like Kaepernick should be able to protest peacefully without being fired, he only wanted to create change against racial injustice.

I agree with you. Kaepernick did what he believed was right and I wish people could see that he didn't mean any harm. I think that trying to make a difference against racial injustice was a good thing that he did because it's not okay for people to be discriminated for their race. All lives matter and there's no reason to treat someone bad because of their color, language or background. I admire him because even when he knew he would lose his job, he was proud to take a stand on this issue.
